Blue Collar Union

Canada

In Canada, in this day and age, if you’re stuck in a blue collar job, you’re in tough. You’re required to work hard for little pay without a lot of benefits. And things don’t look like they’re going to get better anytime soon. You might be slugging it out on the docks, behind the wheel of a rig driving all-night shifts, on a construction site, working a trade, getting a living from the land, or waiting tables and picking up other people’s crap. But whatever your job is, you’re a long way from an airconditioned office sitting on your ass all day and making a nice sized check. That kind of life can only be dreamed of my a member of the blue collar sector. You’re stuck in a hard way of life from the day you’re born till the day you die. That may sound brutal and harsh. And it’s not what you want to hear. But that is exactly the way it is. That is your life.

That needs to change. And that is what the Blue Collar Union of Canada is all about. We are here to enlist every blue collar worker in Canada, young and old, male and female, no matter what your job title into a huge all-inclusive nationwide union. If we could achieve this, we would be in a position to take advantage of the clout obtained to effect real changes to Canadian society. We would be able to make the kinds of changes we have only been able to dream about up until now, things like huge pay increases so that we get paid the same wages as everyone else, better working conditions and job security, and better benefits. In other words forming this union is the springboard to great things for people in the blue collar sector in this country. It’s ultimate goal is to get you, the hardest working man or woman on the planet, the life you deserve.

Just remember the slogan “POWER TO THE CANADIAN WORKER.” And then when you see it on social media or in the media, you will know you are on the right track.

REAL JOBS DESERVE REAL PAY

Unions have always been the best ways for members of the working class to get concessions from the businesses and corporations they work for. Sometimes it’s about pay. But it can also be related things like hours, security and sick leave. The fact that a well organized union can make a big change in what sort of treatment its members receive from their employers says a lot about the essential nature of their employment. Big corporations and the government would not feel the pressure so acutely and be so willing to negotiate and make concessions if there wasn’t a lot at stake for them. And there is a lot at stake for the employers and businesses when they face striking workers. Even a temporary work stoppage can cost the economy tens and in some cases hundreds of millions of dollars a week. And that is just for an individual, localized profession, such as the stevedores of Vancouver. Think what power a union comprised of the members of every profession in the blue collar sector could leverage.

Forming a union in this country isn’t an illegal activity. It is perfectly legitimate conduct for a group of workers in any profession or from any company to band together to form a union. What can be deemed illegal is what they do once they’ve formed a union. Sometimes strikers can be legislated back to work. We would have to be careful about what we did. Nevertheless we would be in a very good bargaining position.

Strikes aren’t the only thing our union is about. A well organized team of people with one common goal can do all sorts of things for the good of its members. Think of it. According to statistics Canada, 20.97 million people are currently employed in Canada. We don’t know how many of those are in which sector. But assuming the rates are equal, then there are around 10 million blue collar workers in this country. That’s a lot of people. And once they coordinate their activities for strikes, demonstrations and things like political movements, and protests they can do great things for the cause of the working class in this country.

Let’s work together to get out freedom

The problem is the system. The system can be changed.

You’ve heard people say, “It’s all the cause of the system,” or “They’re a product of the system,” or “The system is broken and it needs to be fixed.” But what exactly do people mean when they use the term, “the system?” Nobody seems to want to take the time to spell out what “the system” is and what’s wrong with it. The question that should be asked is, “What is causing all the hardship in working class lives in this country?”

The system that is in place that is responsible for the problem is one that is generally described as a capitalist economic system. It is the principle of capitalism that is the core driver of the Canadian economy and our society is completely defined by it. Capitalism is simply the process by which people living together in a society conduct their buy and selling in a way that guarantees the generation of profit. This profit takes the form of capital. Capital is not exactly cold hard cash. What it is is money that exist in the economic system as an investment or in some other form that can be used in the world of business. When capitalists conduct business amongst themselves, what they are doing is moving capital between hands by buying, selling and trading commodities in a way that generates profit. All of this buying, selling and trading takes the form of a huge web of transactions which comprises the economic system. When a business man takes capital out of the web and spends it on himself the capital is converted to cold cash. The capitalist web in Canada involves millions of different strands and billions of dollars worth of transactions a day. All that capital moving through the system is what keeps our Canadian economy humming along.

The way a capitalist economy leads to the exploitation of the working class by the middle class has to do with how profit is generated by the economic system. Profit can only come by getting more out of a transaction than what you put into it. In a capitalist system, those transactions are the ones that involve hiring labourers to produce the goods and perform the services that capitalists make money off of by trading amongst themselves. But the key thing to note here, is that the labourers get paid less than the value of what their labour produces. They only get paid what they need to subsist on, which is the basic needs of themselves and their families. The rest of the capital produced in the transaction goes into the pockets of the business owners.

Things could be different. They could be fairer. But then we would need people running the show who actually give a damn, not middle class drones who only care about making easy money in half-ass jobs that uphold the corrupt system. What we need are actual members of the working class in the middle of things calling the shots. That will probably never happen as long as things keep going the way they have been for the past 150 years. Working men got the shaft around the time of Confederation and little as changed since.

It’s impossible for any working class individual to rise up through the system, because the opportunity just isn’t there. Nobody has the money to pay to advance through university, and on top of that the entire system is skewed in favour of middle class minds, culture and lifestyle. Unless this changes, we will see more of the same for as long this country exists.

Those middle class drones are very wary of losing their cushy lifestyles. They push paper and pencils around amongst themselves all day long waiting for the clock to tick down so that they can go out and enjoy a weekend financed by the pay that is so easily generated by their jobs. But what they either don’t know or will not admit, is that they aren’t actually doing the work that produces the wealth. What they are doing is performing manipulations they learned in university to turn a sum of money into an even larger amount of money. They don’t grow the food, manufacture the goods, build the roads and buildings, and do all the work that actually turns out tangible product. What they’re doing is dividing up the wealth that the blue collar workers generated amongst themselves under the watchful eyes of white collar overseers. This is no lie. Think about it. Can a guy in an office with a pen and a computer actually perform one single act that produces something useful?

What these white collar managers are doing is managing the workers, making management decisions to maximize wealth and profits. It’s good to get wealth and profits. But when all the profit goes to the people doing the easiest part of the job? And the thing about the white collar sector is that it is top-heavy. There are too many people in it doing too many unproductive jobs. But there is so much money to go around, money generated by the work of the blue collar class off of our huge amount of natural resources, that this class of fat-cats can easily afford to pay themselves huge salaries.

Not one of them will admit that this is the way it is. And you may not ever see this message so clearly posted on the internet as it is now. And that is because the middle class controls the internet and media just like it controls everything else in this country. But there you have it. If you work a blue collar job and are reading this, you have already felt the bite of middle class exploitation. This posting just confirms what you always knew.
